As many of you know, we have been in talks with Dayspring Lodge No.30 for a few years now, trying to help them find a way forward for their lodge. A brief history of those efforts is as follows: A few years back, they came to us looking to merge, but decided against it when they thought that they might get their membership to rally. That rally never came, and as very few brothers tried to hold the lodge together, mistakes were made, and some unfortunate strategies were enacted in an attempt to keep the lodge afloat. At that point, Grand Lodge stepped in, and gathered affiliate members from other lodges to join Dayspring and attempt to re-form the lodge. Those brothers did their best, but unfortunately the financial situation was insurmountable, and they made the difficult decision to sell their building.
Due to the proximity of Dayspring to us, and due to the fact that many Dayspring members all-ready had dual-membership with us, they approached us to see if they could move into our building. We were able to work out a deal that was suitable for both parties, and after months of work, I am happy to say that they have been welcomed into our building, and have held their first stated communication in our lodge room! Next time you visit, you will find Dayspring items and furniture incorporated into our lodge here, there, and everywhere. These are our brothers, and they will not be simply using our building, but rather will be woven into the fabric of our masonic family. More than that, Temple Lodge is the mother lodge or Dayspring, its membership having come from Temple when they charted their lodge so many years ago.
I am happy to report that they had a great turn-out for their first Stated in the building, including several members of Temple Lodge! All of us were treated to a wonderful lecture on the historic ties between our two lodges by our very own RWB David Stuart, Grand Historian. Not only that, but while we were helping Dayspring pack-up a few weeks back, RWB Stuart located and restored Dayspring's original Bible, printed in 1773! It was a joy to see RWB Stuart ask WM Dan Luft to make the due-gaurd of an Entered Apprentice, and then slide that bible between his hands, as it would be during the EA obligation. It was a wonderfully symbolic and important occasion.
Dayspring Lodge will be meeting on the first Wednesday of every month (including the summer), and opens lodge at 7:30pm currently, though that will be changing soon as they update their by-laws. Please make every effort to come out and support our brothers in their new home! Their secretary, RWB Rob Kovi, can be reached at Robert.kovi@gmail.com. Kindly check in with him if you plan to attend, so that they can be prepared.
